The End
Hello friends,
6 years ago I started “Azorean Stories” as a project that aimed to tell the stories of the Azorean people, immigrants and locals alike. I wanted to document and share the diversity of people and their projects, jobs and passions.
I had so much fun reaching out for interviews, researching and preparing, talking to people and following them around, taking photographs and crafting it all into the articles you got to read on this page.
However, life got in the way. Every single year I promised to return to this project of mine, but life had other plans. Again and again, for one reason or another, I could not commit the time and energy to pursue this project.
In 2026 I, yet again, promised myself to return to it. I even set up the first interview. But then, I got sick (again). Badly. And the doctors were clear: I need to rest. Any kind of stress I could avoid, I should.
So I sat down with a list of all the things I am doing. All of my many work projects as a freelancer and author, my mission to improve my Portuguese this year, countless private things, and responsibilities. Something had to go. Most things were not negotiable, but others were. Much was put on PAUSE, but I knew I had to let go of some things completely. In the end, among a few other things, Azorean Stories did not make the cut.
Azorean Stories had always been on my mind. I might not have been able to commit to it the way I wanted, but I always thought about it. Over the years it became loaded with shame and guilt and frustration, since I really wanted to work on this beloved project but it got forever post-poned.
So, I am letting it go. For good.
In June, this website will disappear.
My heart is heavy but I am also relieved.
Thank you for all your love and support.
PS: You are still able to read some of the previous articles here moving forward. To keep up with me as an author and island immigrant, follow my website and Instagram.
